ABOUT US
Welcome to Kirtan Highland, where the ancient art of Vedic chanting meets the soulful beauty of the Highlands. Our journey began in the cosy embrace of The Yurt, where Douglas and Richard came together to form what has become 'the band'.
Kirtan, a harmonious call and response of chanting ancient Vedic mantras, is designed to evoke bliss and harmonise inner peace and well-being. With Douglas on the mridanga and Richard leading the chant and harmonium, we began to announce events at local venues such as 'The Bike Shed' and 'The Spectrum Centre', while continuing our beloved Thursday sessions at The Yurt.
As word spread faster than a Highland wildfire, our gatherings grew, attracting a merry band of like-minded souls eager to explore their spirituality. Enter Lewis, with his infectious good vibes and brilliant ideas, and Taylor, our creative wizard who gave us a distinctive identity and now runs our social media, branding, and promotional magic – not to mention rocking the lead guitar.
Our loyal members, including Joolz, Jen, Misa and Mairead, have been with us through every event and Yurt session, enriching our music with their guitars, kartals, mridanga, harmonium, and voices. With time, our community continued to flourish.
Our mission is to continue growing and spreading the essence of inner peace. To reach a larger audience and cultivate more kindred spirits, we’ve decided to open a shop. Here, you can wear your serenity with pride and help us spread the message and encourage inner peace. Every donation and profit goes back into promoting Kirtan Highland while also putting donations from events towards charities such as Food for Scotland based at Leshmahagow based near Glasgow and Love Braj who are based in Vrindavan, India.
Join us on this journey, and together, let’s chant our way to a peaceful existence
